RESULTS FROM OLD HICKORY PLAYED AT MOTUEKA - THURSDAY 4 MARCH:

The following report was received from Ken Howden our Old Hickory convenor:-

"Motueka on 4th March - a lovely day - the sun shone, the birds sang, the course was in great condition and the golf was not very inspiring. No teams were all that good with the winning team only averaging 36.25 stableford points. Unfortunately it was not us!! Our individual scores were Grant Tilley 33, Ken Howden & Jim Hall 31, Lawrie Currie 29, Nevile Manins 27, Hugh Gourdie 24.

It was unfortunate Doug Tallot had to withdraw due to injury. All I can say is - Doug get well soon!! The main results were, Waahi-Taakaro 145. Motueka 142, Tasman & Totaradale 134, Takaka 130 & Nelson 124.

Hopefully some better golfing on April 1st at Waahi-Takaro with some changes to the team. "

REMINDER REGARDING WITHDRAWALS FROM PUBLISHED DRAWS:

With the Club competitive season now underway there will be a number of draws published in the Nelson Mail on Thursdays and inputed into the computer tee booking system by Wednesday. IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT IF MEMBERS HAVE A LEGITAMATE REASON FOR PULLING OUT OF A PUBLISHED DRAW , THEY MUST NOTIFY THE OFFICE (548 5029) OR THE PRO-SHOP (548 5028). For the first round of the Encounter Shield, there were a number of "no shows" who did not notify anyone. This creates major disruption to the starter and is unfair on the rest of the field.

WASTE AREA ABOUT TO BE CONSTRUCTED ON #4 HOLE:

Members will note some white pegs on the right side of #4 fairway just short of the gap. These pegs are roughly marking the boundaries to the first waste area to be established on the course. The Course Superintendent will start construction of this waste area next week with our small digger.

Waste Areas are large natural "unkempt" areas consisting mainly of exposed soil with patches of grass/tussock and even isolated trees within them. They are not classified as a hazard so players can ground their club when playing a shot out of a waste area.

Whilst the waste area is being constructed it will be classed as GUR and players will have to take a compulsorary free drop off the area no closer to the hole. Once constructed, players will have to play the ball where it lies in the waste area.

NELSON GOLF CLUB WOOL JERSEYS & SLEEVELESS JERSEYS:

Both the Men's and the Women's Committees are supporting the adoption of a Club jersey and a Club sleeveless jersey. The lightweight woolen jerseys are navy blue in colour with the Nelson Golf Club crest embroided on them.

The pre-order cost of the full jersey is $69.00 as opposed to the retail cost of $99.00. The pre-order cost for the sleeveless jersey is $59.00 as opposed to the retail cost of $89.00.
