RESULTS FROM AMP POWERHOUSE JUNIOR GOLF TOURNAMENT - THURSDAY 15 APRIL:

This holiday District Junior Tournament was held at Nelson Golf Club on Thursday 15 April and was kindly sponsored by AMP Powerhouse Insurance Services. As part of the sponsorship, a coaching clinic was held prior to the tournament for all the participants. The clinic was conducted by Ken Allan and Glyn Delany, the resident Club Professionals at Nelson Golf Club.

It was very pleasing to have 41 entries in the event with players travelling from Marlborough, Takaka, Reefton and Hokitika to participate against junior players from all the local Nelson golf clubs. Bruce Bosselmann, on behalf of the sponsor, was thrilled to be associated with such a well supported event and stated that AMP would be willing to sponsor it on an annual basis.

MEN'S CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS - ROUND 1 OF MATCHPLAY - SATURDAY 17 APRIL

The draw for the first round of the Men's Club Championship matchplay was published on Tuesday and all participants should be well aware of their start times. Players are reminded that they must report to the Pro-Shop and collect their cards at least 10 minutes before their scheduled tee-off time.

The Rules of Golf require that matchplay scores must be entered for handicapping purposes. When recording scores for unplayed holes, you should score par plus any handicap strokes the player is entitled to receive on the hole (ie. record a score equivalent to 2 stableford points).

First round matchplay losers will automatically go into the PLATE COMPETITIONS which start on SATURDAY 1 MAY.

It is the RESPONSIBILITY OF THE LOSERS OF MATCHES TO RECORD THE RESULT OF THE MATCH ON THE DRAW SHEETS IN THE CLUBHOUSE LOUNGE.

MORE GUR AREAS ON THE COURSE:

The new bunker that has been constructed this week on the right edge of #4 green is classed as GUR until the turfed surrounds stabilise, which should be in about one week.

The former bunker at the back of #4 green that has been filled in, is also classified as GUR. This will remain as GUR until a grass sward is established on it.

The front third of the #15 couch fairway, where turf has been removed to revet the new bunker on #4, is also classed as GUR until such time as the couch grass re-establishes.

On all these GUR areas, players are to take a compulsorary drop at the nearest point of relief no closer to the hole for NO PENALTY.

CLARIFICATION OF MEN'S MATCH FEE PAYMENTS:

When Men's Club matchplay competitions are being held there is no match fee charged.

Match fees can be charged for other Men's trophy competitions (eg. medal or stableford rounds) but it is optional to to pay the match fee on these occassions. If a member chooses not to pay the match fee, they can compete for the Men's trophy at stake, but will not receive any prize for the competition of the day.

Members should also note that of the Men's match fees collected on a Saturday during the competition season (Feb - Nov), 75% is distributed as prizes (credit at the Pro-Shop) and 25% is retained by the Club to contribute toward the cost of end of year prize vouchers.

ACHESON CUP DEFENSE - WEDNESDAY 21 APRIL:

Our Women's section are defending the Acheson Cup for a sixth time against a team from Golden Downs on Wednesday 21 April.
