NELSON GOLF CLUB NEWSLETTER - 14 MAY 2010

RESULTS OF RUSSIAN ROULETTE ROUND - STAURDAY 8 MAY:

What imaginative person in the golf world thought up the name Russian Roulette Stableford Pairs for what we unimaginatively used to call multiplication stableford? Makes the competition as held last Saturday sound far more interesting. Certainly Brent Williams and Paul Yates found that so, coming home with 87 points for first place and three balls each.

Six points back in second place with 81 points were Jamie Barnes and Rory Kelly who won two balls each.
One ball each went to Geoff Lovelock and Tony Rowe (77), Les Humphries and Steve Aitken (77), Garry Askew and Ken Howden (77), Graham Peat and John Dollimore (76) and Blair Cunningham and Owen Kirker (76).

Dennis Andrews and Johnny Corby had a very interesting scorecard under this format for the front nine. They scored zero for the first 3 holes and then scored 9 points on the fourth hole, follwed by a 12 pointer on the fifth hole. They then both had BIRDIES on the sixth hole to record an amazing 16 points. However, they turned out to be 3 hole wonders as they lapsed back to their usual form and could only record 39 points for the nine, with 37 of them being scored on 3 holes!!

RESULT OF PETER GENTRY MEMORIAL MIXED VETS TOURNAMENT - MONDAY 10 MAY:

Some 39 members participated in this years Peter Gentry Memorial Trophy event. This mixed team low ball competition was won this year with a best net score of 57 by a team composed of:-

Stan Barnes, Lawrie Currie, John Mitchell and Jossie Rosser - congratulations!!

HARD LUCK DAVE!!

The hard luck story of the week has to go to DAVE RIORDAN, who after playing the back 9 holes on Tuesday evening with Gary Kerr, decided to continue playing by himself for a few more holes. When he got to Hole #3 his tee shot when straight into the hole on the full for a HOLE IN ONE!! After much shouting and jumping up and down he realised that no one else had witnised his first ACE. Unfortunately the hole in one cannot be formally recognised, so keep on trying Dave and make sure you are playing with someone else!!

NEW BUNKER NOW IN PLAY:

The new bunker on the right front of the fourth green is now in play. Good luck to those that land in it!!

This is a pairs event where you can choose your own partner. Individual entries will also be accepted and will be paired up by the Men's Committee.

The competition is an aggregate of Best Ball Stableford scores over two rounds played on SATURDAY 12 JUNE and SATURDAY 9 JULY. Please note the different date for the second round to that which appears in the programme. The reason for this change is that the COSTELLO SHIELD (Presidents vs Captains) will now be played for on SATURDAY 26 JUNE prior to the MID YEAR XMAS DINNER.

REMINDER ABOUT FIREWOOD GATHERING:

Members who have the required chainsaw & safety equipment are reminded that they can gather firewood for FREE from the slash pile beside #2 green. This slash pile is out of the area of play so we are now allowing members to source this firewood on any day of the week as long as they have signed a form regarding conditions of access which are available at the office.

REPAIR OF PITCH MARKS:

Nothing more needs to be said really, but unrepaired pitch marks are common on some greens, particularly the par 3 Nos 15 and 17 as a result of greens not being quite so hard. Please take a moment when on greens to make sure your pitch mark and any others you see are repaired.

Happy Golfing
