NEWSLETTERS NOW BEING SENT OUT ON THURSDAY EVENINGS:

MEMBERS INFORMATION MEETING ON THE COURSE REDEVELOPMENT - SATURDAY 22 MAY:
Some 65 members attended the information meeting on the course redevelopment last Saturday. The meeting received the plans for course redevelopment over the next 8 months very positively.
MEN'S CAPTAINS REPORT - A WINNING WEEKEND:
Owen Kirker has provided the following report:-
While the club's men's matchplay champions were being found last Sunday there was still enough player depth for the club's SLOAN TROPHY team to give Greenacres a good beating. It was the team's FIRST WIN of the season with FOUR NEW PLAYERS substituting for others involved in championships. Results of the Sloan Trophy matches played at Totaradale were as follows:-
Simon Parle beat Chris Chrysostom 3 and 2, Johnny Corby beat Justin Smith 5 and 4, Alistair Papps lost 4 and 3 to Peter Crins, Peter Hay beat Robin Frengley 4 and 3, Neil Drewery beat Wayne Robinson 7 and 5 and Kevin Sowman beat Paul Desmond 2 and 1.
My informant tells me that the opposition were all experienced match play golfers, so the selector could well be under some pressure to retain the winning team.
Back at Nelson intriguing matches were being played in the club finals. In the Championship event finalists were Brett Allan and Luke Jackson, both big hitters of the ball. In the first 18 holes Luke was somewhat wayward and Brett led 2 up at lunch. But in the afternoon Luke played tidier and soon took the lead with the match being over at the 17th.
Brett's younger brother, Daniel, brought home some silverware for the family. Daniel beat experienced match player Pradeep Kumar 6 and 4.
Family members opposed each other in the final of the Kerr Cup with President Bob Shore playing grandson Matt Oldridge. Matt was 5 up after 18 holes but Bob managed to keep the game going through to the 14th where Matt won 5 and 4.
In the Terry O'Donnell Memorial Trophy Daniel Grimes, grandson of club stalwart Ian Lash, beat Darren Quirk, son of life member Jack Quirk, 6 and 5.
In the Senior Trophy, for golfers 70 plus, Noel Newburn met up with Grant Tilley. Grant introduced Noel to golf about 15 years ago. Grant won 2 up.
Grade and plate winners and runners-up were:-
Club championship, Luke Jackson 3/1 over Brett Allan.
Newman Plate, Craig Marshall, 6/5 over Rob Ancell.
Kerr Cup, Matt Oldridge 5/4 over Bob Shore.
Low Plate, Gary Walton, 6/5 over Ben Norrish.

.
Cock Cup, Daniel Allan, 6/4 over Pradeep Kumar.

LAST SUNDAY BEGINNER SESSION BEFORE WINTER - SUNDAY 30 MAY:
The last Sunday Begnner session before the winter break will be held this Sunday at 9.30am. However, this year we would like beginners to keep their "hand in" over winter so we are going to hold BEGINNER SESSIONS ON THE FIRST SUNDAY OF EACH MONTH OVER WINTER at the usual time of 9.30am.

Sunday 1 August
Sunday 5 September
The sessions will then recommence properly at the end of September.
ENTRIES CLOSE FOR MEN'S STABLEFORD CUP - MONDAY 7 JUNE:
Entries close for the STABLEFORD CUP on MONDAY 7 JUNE. Please put your names up on the sheet in the Men's Change Rooms.
This is a pairs event where you can choose your own partner. Individual entries will also be accepted and will be paired up by the Men's Committee.
The competition is an aggregate of Best Ball Stableford scores over two rounds played on SATURDAY 12 JUNE and SATURDAY 9 JULY. Please note the different date for the second round to that which appears in the programme. The reason for this change is that the COSTELLO SHIELD (Presidents vs Captains) will now be played for on SATURDAY 26 JUNE .
JUNIOR CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS QUALIFYING ROUND - SUNDAY 4 JULY:
Advance notice is given that the QUALIFYING ROUND FOR THE JUNIOR CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS will be held on SUNDAY 4 JULY , the first Sunday of the School Holidays. The Roy Mace Salver, Max Warren Trophy and Jan Fellows Salver are all at stake on this round which will tee off from 10.30am.
NEAR MISSES:
A number of near misses on the golf course have come to my attention recently. It is important that if a player hits a wayward shot in the direction of other players, that the player's partners all yell "FORE" as a warning. A bit of commensense and consideration of other players on the course goes a long way toward reducing the risk of players getting hit by other players' golf balls.
REMINDER ABOUT FIREWOOD GATHERING:
Members who have the required chainsaw & safety equipment are reminded that they can gather firewood for FREE from the slash pile beside #2 green. This slash pile is out of the area of play so we are now allowing members to source this firewood on any day of the week as long as they have signed a form regarding conditions of access which are available at the office.
Happy Golfing
