RESULTS OF COSTELLO SHIELD (PRESIDENTS vs CAPTAINS) TOURNAMENT - SATURDAY 26 JUNE:
109 members enjoyed calm and very pleasant conditions for the annual matchup between the Presidents Team and the Captains Team. The competition eventually ended up being a Best Ball Stableford Matchplay with the result that of the 27 matches played, the Presidents Team won 16 matches, the Captains Team 8 matches and 3 matches were squared. Bob Shore was duely presented with the Costello Shield by Club Captain Bill Rooney whose team had won the Shield last year.
This event again proved to be a great occasion for the Club with the President shouting all players a drink and also organising sponsorship for a bottle of wine prize for all members of the winning team. The raffles raised $504 and the auction $770 for Club funds, while the target green raised $320 for the Junior Girls Travel Fund. Thanks to all those members who helped make this a memorable golf event.
MEN'S CAPTAIN'S TROPHY QUALIFYING ROUND - SATURDAY 3 JULY:
75 members will play a net medal round off the white tees on Saturday to determine the 64 players to qualify for the matchplay on handicap competition to follow over the next few weeks. (ie. 11 members to be eliminated).
Please note that players who lose their first round match on Saturday 17 July will be allocated into the draw for the Presidents Plate.
JUNIOR CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP QUALIFYING ROUND - SUNDAY 4 JULY:
SECOND ROUND OF STABLEFORD CUP - SATURDAY 10 JULY:
JUNIOR HOLIDAY GOLF TOURNAMENT - FRIDAY 16 JULY:
Juniors are invited to participate in a holiday tournament to be held on Friday 16 July. Assemble at 10.00am for a draw and tee off from 10.34am. Single Stableford and Single Net Medal competitions. Enter at the Pro-Shop - $2 entry fee. There will be a 9 hole competition for younger members with no handicap.
SRIXON NATIONAL STABLEFORD PAIRS TOURNAMENT - SUNDAY 25 JULY:
Advance notice is given of this very popular National Series Tournament will be held on SUNDAY 25 JULY. Assemble at 11.15am for a 12 noon shotgun start
Men's, Women's or Mixed pairs stableford best ball competition. There is no limit to the playing handicap, but all entrants must have an official New Zealand handicap.
Entry fee : $60 per pair ($30 per player)
Entry includes extensive prize list and starter pack. OFFICE & PRO-SHOP STAFF WILL RECORD YOUR ENTRY ON THE START SHEET.
One pair for every 10 pairs entered in the tournament will qualify for free entry to the Regional Final in November. There will be 5 Regional playoff tournaments for 2010 and the top two pairs from each Regional Final will qualify for free entry to the National Final to be played over 36 holes also in November.
All costs of entry to the Regional Final, to be held at Pegasus on 13 November, and the Regional Final after match function/meal/prize giving shall be borne by Cale Golf Ltd.
All costs associated with the National Final: Travel, accommodation, tournament entry and some meals shall be borne by Cale Golf Ltd.
The National champions shall be awarded the Srixon National Pairs Series Trophy and receive a golfing holiday at a golf resort.
EXTENTION OF "TWO FOR THE PRICE OF ONE" NEW MEMBERSHIP OFFER TO 31 JULY:
The "two for the price of one" new membership offer has been successful in recruiting 54 new members to the Club over the last two months. At their meeting this week, the Board of Directors decided to extend the offer for a further month to 31 July.
A New Members Afternoon is being held at 1.30pm on SUNDAY 18 JULY to welcome the new members and introduce them to some of the Club officials and the facilities and procedures at the Club. A 4 hole ambrose will be played and then a complimentary drink will be served in the Clubhouse.
CARE ON PRACTICE AREA:
I received a complaint this week from one of our neigbours adjacent to our practice area, who had collected 12 balls from her garden and lawn at the weekend. She noted that some members were using tee markers on the practice area as a target and consequently were aiming directly at her house. Members should note that the 5 flags placed on the practice area should be used as targets since they were located to minimise the risk of causing any damage to neighbouring properties. TEES ARE FOR PLAYING FROM, NOT FOR PLAYING TO!!
PARKING OF TRUNDLERS IN TRUNDLER SHED:
Could members please take more care when parking their trundlers in the shed so as to cause the least disruption to other users of the facility. Members with larger trundlers, please take into consideration other users who may have to negotiate past your trundler.
RULES COURSE AT NELSON GOLF CLUB - STARTS MONDAY 16 AUGUST:
The District Referees Association will be conducting a RULES COURSE based at Nelson Golf Club starting on Monday 16 August at 7.00pm. The course consists of 5 one and a half hour sessions held on Monday evenings, followed by an optional exam on the sixth evening (27 September). This course is recommended to all players of the game - you will learn things that are HELPFUL to your game!!
MARKETING PLAN:
At the last meeting of the Board of Directors it was decided that the Club required a Marketing Plan in order that we had a structured approach to presenting the Club to the outside world, to recruit and retain members, to attract more green fee paying visitors, to attrract more corporate events and to host National events.
