XAVIAR LAURIE - THIRD BEST JUNIOR NET HOMELINKS IN NEW ZEALAND:
Congratulations are extended to XAVIAR LAURIE who scored a net 68 in the Women's Homelinks Competition back in early May which was the best Junior net scored in the Tasman Region and the THIRD BEST IN NZ!! Well done Xaviar - keep up that practice!
REPORT FROM THE MEN'S CAPTAIN:
Survey response
There has been a good initial response to the questionnaire for club male members with 75 replies being received. More are required so please either go to the emailed questionnaire or call at the office for a printed version. Remember, each completed and returned copy goes into a draw for a stay and play voucher worth $250 for a night's accommodation for two and a round of golf each at a range of eight New Zealand destinations.
Stableford Cup winners:
Congratulations to Alistair Papps and Johnny Corby for winning the Stableford Cup with a two-round total of 90, 46 in the first round and 44 in the second. Hot on their heals were Gavin Cook and Joe Mason with a total of 89. In the final round they had the best stableford total of the day of 49 points to go with their first round score of 40. Third were Tom Pyatt and Steve Aitken with 41 and 44 for a total fo 83.
Staig Memorial:
The entry sheet for the next major club competition, the Staig Memorial senior-junior best ball match play is on the notice board in the men's locker room. To enter just put your name on the start sheet with handicap index. Senior and junior players are drawn to play together. The cutoff point for seniors and juniors will be decided once the number of entries are known. Entries close on August 23. If there are more than 32 pairs a qualifying best ball nett round will be play on August 28 with matchplay on September 18 and October 9, 16 and 30.
Captain's Trophy:
The first two matchplay rounds for the Captain's Trophy will be played on Saturdays, July 17 and 24. Remember, if you lose your first round you go into the President's Plate round on July 24. On the final Saturday of the month, July 31 a stableford round off the blue tees will be played for the McQuade Mug.
RESULTS OF ACHESON CUP CHALLENGE vs PICTON - THURSDAY 15 JULY:
Our Women's team were able to repulse the 7th challenge for the Acheson Cup today by beating the team from Picton Golf Club, 4.5 matches to 1.5 matches. Well done girls, you are on a roll!! Results were as follows:-

JUNIOR HOLIDAY GOLF TOURNAMENT - FRIDAY 16 JULY:
Juniors are invited to participate in our holiday tournament to be held TOMORROW, FRIDAY 16 JULY at NELSON. Assemble at 10.00am for a draw and tee off from 10.34am. Single Stableford and Single Net Medal competitions. Enter at the Pro-Shop - $2 entry fee. There will be a 9 hole competition for younger members with or without handicap.
NEW MEMBERS AFTERNOON - SUNDAY 18 JULY:
A New Members Afternoon is being held at 1.30pm on SUNDAY 18 JULY to welcome OUR new members and introduce them to some of the Club officials and the facilities and procedures at the Club. A 4 hole ambrose will be played and then a complimentary drink will be served in the Clubhouse.
Please note that the "two for the price of one" new membership offer has been extended for a further month to 31 July.
NELSON VETS 100 GROUP MIXED TOURNAMENT - MONDAY 19 JULY:
A Nelson Vets 100 Group Mixed Tournament is to be held on MONDAY 19 JULY. All Nelson Club members over the age of 50 years are invited to participate. Report at 9.30am for a 10.00am shotgun start. $5 entry fee with twos optional.
NZ GOLF GATEWAY COACHING PROGRAMME - THURSDAY 22 JULY:
A new coaching programme developed for NZ Golf called GATEWAY COACHING is being introduced throughout the country. The programme is for existing or new volunteer coaches who wish to further develop their coaching abilities with Junior golfers.
The programme is a 6 hour course covering 6 modules. For the Nelson District, the training will take place on THURSDAY 22 JULY at Nelson Golf Club. The course starts at 9am and goes through to 5pm.
There is a cost of $50 for the course which covers the cost of the manuals which you keep and lunch. Anyone from our Club who is interested in attending, please contact Chris Pugh on teedoff@xtra.co.nz or the office - the Club will pay for the cost of the coaching manual.
SRIXON NATIONAL STABLEFORD PAIRS TOURNAMENT - SUNDAY 25 JULY:
Advance notice is given of this very popular National Series Tournament will be held on SUNDAY 25 JULY. Assemble at 11.15am for a 12 noon shotgun start.
Men's, Women's or Mixed pairs stableford best ball competition. There is no limit to the playing handicap, but all entrants must have an official New Zealand handicap.
Entry fee $60 per pair ($30 per player)
Entry includes extensive prize list and starter pack. OFFICE & PRO-SHOP STAFF WILL RECORD YOUR ENTRY ON THE START SHEET.
One pair for every 10 pairs entered in the tournament will qualify for free entry to the Regional Final in November. There will be 5 Regional playoff tournaments for 2010 and the top two pairs from each Regional Final will qualify for free entry to the National Final to be played over 36 holes also in November.
All costs of entry to the Regional Final, to be held at Pegasus on 13 November, and the Regional Final after match function/meal/prize giving shall be borne by Cale Golf Ltd.
All costs associated with the National Final: Travel, accommodation, tournament entry and some meals shall be borne by Cale Golf .
The National champions shall be awarded the Srixon National Pairs Series Trophy and receive a golfing holiday at a golf resort.
AUCTION LIST FOR SRIXON PAIRS EVENT - SUNDAY 25 JULY:
Attached please find the AUCTION LIST for the auction that will be held prior to the prizegiving after the Srixon Pairs event on Sunday 25 July. Please study and form syndicates, if necessary, to bid for any items you may be interested in.
PAT HARBROW TROPHY MIXED PAIRS BEST BALL - SUNDAY 8 AUGUST:
The first of several Sunday mixed pairs events will be held on SUNDAY 8 AUGUST. The competition will be a mixed pairs best ball stableford for the Pat Harbrow Trophy. Choose your own partner. Assemble at 11.00am for a multi tee start at 11.30am.
Entry fee is $5 per person. Entries to the Office. If you do not have a partner but would like to play, please advise the Office.
PIN PLACEMENTS:
Members are reminded that the Grounds Staff are now setting new pin placements according to the following procedure:-
All ODD numbered holes with YELLOW CHECKED FLAGS will be placed in a quadrat of the green that is diagonally opposite to all the EVEN numbered holes with BLACK CHECKED FLAGS.
A glance at the pin position on #18 green will give you a good idea what to expect around the whole course. Alternatively, we are now marking the current week's pin locations for odd and even numbered greens on the Local Rules white board on the side of the Pro-Shop.
