RESULTS OF VETS 100 GROUP TOURNAMENT - MONDAY 19 JULY:
Ken Howden has provided the following report, somewhat belatedly, concerning the recent Vets Tournament:-
"On Monday the 19th the Vets 100 Group held a single stableford which with 41 players was very well attended for a mid-winter tournament . The weather was great and some very good scores were recorded, with the ladies to the fore. I would like to thank my Committee, the greens staff and our caterers for a job well done, to make it such a pleasant day.
The next fixture will be on the 16th August - this is not a sponsored event as printed in our programme, but will be a single stableford with hidden partners. Looking forward to seeing you all then."
RESULTS OF MEN'S COMPETITION - SATURDAY 24 JULY:
Most men were involved in matchplay for either the Captain's Trophy or the President's Plate. However, another 33 players entered the stableford competition of the day, the results of which were as follows:-

Norm Rapson 37 pts
Simon Parle 36 pts

The editor played with young DANIEL GRIMES who had just returned from an overseas holiday with his family and could not afford the $2 entry fee for the competition. On a 14 handicap he shot a personal best score of 79 for a net 65 and 42 points!! Well done Daniel - pity about the lost opportunity gain!! (PS. the editor, playing off the same handicap as Daniel, was eating his dust the whole way round and finished some 13 shots adrift.)
Twos were scored by Blair Cunningham, Harry Day, Dave Harley, Kerry Kinaston, Neville Manins, Euan Milne, Simon Parle, Don Pierson, Richard Puklowski, Andrew Simpson, Dave Ward and Paul Yates. TODD BUCHANAN scored twos on #3 and #15 and won the jackpot worth $138.

COMPETITIONS ON SATURDAY 31 JULY:
The Men are playing a single stableford off the BLUE tees for the McQUADE MUG. The match fees ($2 per player) have been allocated to the EAGLES SOCIETY and purchases all competitors a ticket in their annual national raffle. The raffle is for a variety of golfing equipment ranging from full sets of clubs downwards. A member of our club - Pradeep Kumar - won a new driver in last year's raffle so it proves that its possible to get a prize!
The Women are playing an LGU medal round & putting.
EARTHWORKS ON LEFT SIDE OF #1 HOLE:
The earthworks on the left side of #1 fairway in front of the #18 tee, are part of the approved course redevelopment whereby the existing large mound will be lowered in height and a number of smaller mounds will be created around it. A lot of fill will be brought in by contractors over the next 3 weeks to create the new mounds that will be sown in a browntop/fescue grass seed mix in Spring. The reduction of the large mound will enable players on the #1 and #18 tees to see oneanother which should improve safety.

Andrew advises that Mico have 2 main activities planned.
1: We have setup a small putting green in our trade store, customers can make a donation for the chance to sink a hole-in-one. If they do they will be given a prize. This could be anything from a t-shirt right through to a new toilet suite. Most of the prizes are being donated by our suppliers.
2: On the 30th August we are having a "Shave Day" 8am-11am in our front carpark on St Vincent Street.
Leading up to this date customers who want to support Cure Kids can sign up and go out and gather donations/pledges.
On the 30th they can do 1 of 4 things. Going from shaving their head or waxing their chest or waxing one strip down one leg.
Members are encouraged to get involved with these activities and perhaps make a donation. 100% of the money raised goes direct to Cure Kids and GST receipts will be issued on request.
