UPDATE ON THE BIG WET - 31 DECEMBER 2011
It's stopped raining at last!! The course is OPEN FOR PLAY over 18 holes, but players must be aware that there is a lot of surface water present that will not disappear until the water table drops.
A reduced green fee will apply today and tomorrow for both affiliated and non-affiliated visitors.
The course received 78mm of rain since lunchtime on Thursday which brings our December rainfall total to 475mm (ie. approximately half our annual rainfall in one month). This "Big Wet" is a once in a 100 year event and has caused the water table to rise to record levels. It is the height of the water table that is causing us problems on the golf course as we have few areas to pump water to where it can drain away. However, all our drains have been checked and are functioning at full capacity, so Brendon is confident that the ponds & puddles will disappear a lot quicker this second time around.
Unfortunately our bunkers have all refilled with water and ALL BUNKERS REMAIN CLASSED AS GUR. This local rule will probably remain in place until the end of next week as our grounds staff will start pumping the bunkers out when they return to work on Wednesday. The bunkers will then need to be raked, the sand allowed to dry out, then raked again before they will be playable again.
I trust members can be patient with the current course conditions but still come down and play and support Jamie (The 19th) and Glyn (Pro-Shop) during these difficult times.
Wishing you a Safe and Happy New Year
