The guys have been busy during my time off. The greens have been sanded, bunkers tidied up, 14th Tee prepared for sowing along with all the normal jobs to complete.
On Monday we will be giving the Greens one of the two planned verti-drainings of the year. The Greens will be bumpy for a short period of time but this is an essential part of our program which eliminates the need for coring of the Greens. This is the worst condition the Greens are in for the year. Please be patient with the playing conditions and remember back to the old times of closing the Course twice a year for three days to preform the coring process. It has now been close to ten years since the Greens have been cored.
The greens continue to show that we are maintaining acceptable thatch levels by producing fast, smooth, free draining greens with a significant reduction in pesticide use. This program does necessitate more frequent, less intrusive maintenance practices on the Greens but in my opinion we provide a better quality, more consistent putting surface year round than under the old system of coring.
Thanks for your patience.
