Long Drive South Island Champs. Nov 2023 Nelson Golf Club hosted the South Island Long Drive Championships on Sunday 5 November with a lot of prize money up for grabs, the Masters division ended up with 8 players in it, including our own Derek Drysdale (club President) Greg Galway (superintendent of the course) Tony Watkins (GM) along with Joel Taylor (who had just returned from the World Long Drive Championships coming 5th in the World in the masters division) and Grant Newport from the Greenacres (hopefully Nelson next year after the prizemoney he won!). In the Open Men’s Division we had 13 entries including 6 players from Nelson, Matt Grimes made it through to the 3rd place play off and was only 6 metres away from grabbing 3rd place with a 286 metre drive, George Wardell won 3rd place winning $1,000.
