The Fairways received an insecticide application this week. This was applied during the night on Wednesday. It is very low in toxicity to Humans and is a great chemical to apply compared to some of the more dangerous ones. Some of the older chemicals that we used to use now require the closing of the Course for 24 hours after application. It also has great longevity and greatly assists the Fairways recovery in Autumn when we get some warm rain.
The Greens have been needle tined this week and have also had both water penetrants and retainers applied. They are under stress at the moment because of the dry windy spell as well as the need for low fertility to get the required playing surfaces for some of the events we have on at the moment. After the conclusion of the Club Champs in a few weeks, they will be fertilised with a more significant fertiliser which will make them healthier. The green speed will slow down a bit but the greens will be better equipped to cope with the busy golfing months combined with the hotter temps.
